The conservative commentator criticized the US president for attacking the pope and waging war with Iran \u201con Israel\u2019s behalf\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

US President Donald Trump\u2019s true religion is \u201cIsraelism\u201d<\/em> rather than Christianity, conservative journalist and podcaster Tucker Carlson has claimed, criticizing the president\u2019s Middle East policies.<\/p>\n

Carlson made the remarks in response to controversial statements Trump made over the past week, including his attacks on Pope Leo XIV and posts depicting himself as a Christ-like figure.<\/p>\n

On Monday, Trump described the US-born pontiff as \u201cweak\u201d<\/em> and \u201cterrible for foreign policy\u201d<\/em> after the pope called Trump\u2019s threat to destroy Iranian civilization \u201ctruly unacceptable\u201d<\/em> and said that Jesus \u201cdoes not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

On his show, Carlson argued that the US had launched the war against Iran \u201con behalf of Israel\u201d<\/em> and \u201cat the instigation of Israel.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s the religion, honestly, of Donald Trump? It\u2019s not Christianity, clearly. It\u2019s Israelism. It\u2019s the defense of Israel,\u201d<\/em> Carlson said, adding that support for the Jewish state has become a \u201ccivic religion\u201d<\/em> of the American government.<\/p>\n

He described Trump\u2019s social media posts as \u201ciconography\u201d<\/em> and \u201cattempts to send a statement about faith,\u201d<\/em> which \u201cdoesn\u2019t actually add up to a theology.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

US Vice President J.D. Vance, who is Catholic, sided with Trump, arguing that it is \u201cvery important for the pope to be careful when he talks about matters of theology.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Several senior US officials have invoked religious imagery to justify the war with Iran, with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth urging Americans to pray for victory \u201cin the name of Jesus Christ.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
