The French president has said people should \u201cstay in their own lane\u201d after comments by the Italian prime minister<\/strong><\/p>\n

French President Emmanuel Macron has pushed back against comments by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni regarding the killing of French right-wing activist Quentin Deranque.<\/p>\n

A mathematics student, Deranque died of his injuries on Saturday following a brawl between rival groups in the southeastern French city of Lyon. According to Le Monde, most of the 11 detained suspects are from left-wing movements.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Meloni said the killing of Deranque was \u201ca wound for all of Europe,\u201d<\/em> denouncing the \u201cclimate of ideological hatred sweeping several nations.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Macron said that \u201cnothing can justify violent action,\u201d<\/em> adding that everyone must \u201cstay in their own lane.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m always struck by the fact that people who are nationalists \u2013 who don\u2019t want anyone bothering them at home \u2013 are always the first to comment on what\u2019s happening elsewhere,\u201d<\/em> Macron said on Thursday during a visit to New Delhi.<\/p>\n

Meloni said she was surprised by Macron\u2019s reaction. \u201cMy focus is not on France but on the risks of polarization in society. Interference is something different,\u201d<\/em> she told Sky TG24.<\/p>\n

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez and Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin blamed Deranque\u2019s killing on \u201cultra-left\u201d<\/em> activists. Deranque\u2019s supporters described his death as a \u201clynching\u201d<\/em> and said they were attacked by a mob while trying to protest an event hosted by a politician from the left-wing party La France Insoumise (LFI).<\/p>\n

A video of the incident shows a fight between two groups, with several people punching and kicking a man lying on the ground.<\/p>\n
